The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority conducts an annual assessment of Las Vegas visitors and visitor trends. Their recently released Las Vegas Visitor Profile Study provides a profile of visitors in terms of their behavioral characteristics, vacation and gaming habits, and satisfaction levels. Based on that report, below is a snapshot of Las Vegas Visitors.
- Las Vegas visitors are more likely to be single, employed, and younger with the majority of visitors (91%) coming from domestic locations; only 9% of visitors come from international locations.
- Las Vegas visitors are planners with over half (54%) planning their trip more than a month in advance of their visit, including where they will stay in Las Vegas before leaving home. Very few (5%) use a travel agent to help plan their trip and instead book their trip online (73%).
- Over half (51%) of visitors arrive in Las Vegas by airplane. Once in Vegas, they get around town using ride share, taxi service or a rental car.
- The majority of people (76%) coming to Las Vegas are repeat visitors. Among repeat visitors, the average number of visits per year is 2.3.
- The main reason people (58%) visit Las Vegas is for vacation/pleasure and about 12% come to Las Vegas to visit family or friends. Repeats visitors are more likely to come to visit relatives or for business or sporting events.
- 26% of visitors come to Las Vegas to celebrate a special occasion. Birthday trips are the most popular (48%), followed by anniversaries/romantic getaways (17%), weddings (10%) and bachelor or bachelorette parties (8%).
- Over half (58%) of visitors visit Downtown Las Vegas during their stay. The main reason for visiting Downtown is to see the Fremont Street Experience. Visitors who don’t visit Downtown say it is because they don’t have enough time or interest, it is inconvenient or they prefer the Strip.
- Two out of three visitors (69%) stay on the Strip when they visit Las Vegas. The average length of stay in Las Vegas is 4.4 days and 3.4 nights.
- Three out of four (75%) visitors gamble during their stay, and gamble at an average of 2.2 casinos. Among those visitors, the average amount of time spent gambling is 2.6 hours and their overall gaming budget is $761.22.
- Other activities enjoyed by Las Vegas visitors include attending a show, going to a paid attraction, and attending or viewing a sporting event.
- About four in five visitors (77%) are very satisfied with their visit to Las Vegas with the main reason for their satisfaction being that everything went well on their trip. Among visitors somewhat satisfied with their trip, the main reasons for their lower rating are hotel complaints and the cost.
