Horseshoe Las Vegas Highlights
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The resort originally opened as the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino on December 4, 1973. At that time, it was one of the world’s largest hotels, boasting 2,100 rooms across a 26-story tower. Designed by architect Martin Stern Jr., the MGM Grand set new standards for luxury and entertainment on the Strip. However, on November 21, 1980, a devastating fire broke out, resulting in 85 fatalities and becoming one of the worst high-rise fires in U.S. history. The hotel underwent extensive renovations, reopening on July 29, 1981, with enhanced fire safety measures and an additional tower that increased its room count.
In 1986, Bally Manufacturing purchased the property, rebranding it as Bally’s Las Vegas. The resort continued to thrive, adding amenities and attractions over the years. A notable addition was the Grand Bazaar Shops, an outdoor shopping mall that opened in 2015, offering guests a diverse retail experience.
The most recent transformation occurred on December 15, 2022, when Caesars Entertainment rebranded the property as Horseshoe Hotel and Casino Las Vegas. This rebranding pays homage to the original Binion’s Horseshoe casino in downtown Las Vegas, aiming to infuse the resort with a classic yet contemporary Western theme.
